how to measure for shoe size at home

Measure your feet. To do this, you will need a piece of paper, and pencil or pen. Place the pencil or pen against one of your toes and draw a line across the center of your foot to the other toe. Measure that distance in millimeters (you can measure using a ruler).

If there is an indentation in between your toes, measure up to that point as well. Add the two numbers together and divide by 2.5. Write that number down with a description of it, so you’ll remember where this measurement comes from (for example, if you measure 22.5mm, write “22mm+1mm=23mm”; or if your indentation measures 8mm, write “8+9=17mm”).

Measure your height. To do this, stand on a level surface and lift one foot off the ground. With your other foot still on the ground, use a tape measure to measure the distance from your heel to your longest toe on that foot. Write down your height measurement.

Write down your weight. To do this, weigh yourself in kilograms instead of pounds, and write down the number you get on the scale. If you use pounds, divide that number by 2.2.

Look up the sizes for men and women in shoes that you want to buy online. These should be posted on the website of the brand or style of shoe you're looking to buy; if they're not there, contact customer service and ask them to send it to you (they usually will). The sizes will be in European sizes (if you don't know what that means, see the footnote below).

Tip: The best way to find your European shoe size is to measure your feet with a tape measure at home, and then look up the corresponding value for your height and weight on this chart. When you go to buy shoes online, you'll be able to get the same style of shoe in the same size every time.
